Infrastructure / Biomass and Bioenergy
Biomass and Bioenergy
Facilities for the analysis and experimental investigation of biomass, solid fuels and bioenergy systems.
SERG’s biomass and bioenergy facilities support the physical, proximate, elemental and energy-content analysis of biomass and other solid fuels. The infrastructure also enables controlled thermal treatment, combustion testing and flue-gas analysis.

CHNS/O elemental analyser
Determines the carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulphur and oxygen content of biomass and solid fuel samples.

Biomass boiler and combustion-testing system
Enables experimental investigation of biomass combustion, thermal performance and operating conditions.

Laboratory electric furnace
Supports controlled heating and thermal processing of biomass and other laboratory samples.

Biomass moisture meter
Determines the moisture content of biomass samples for fuel characterisation and quality assessment.

Temperature probes and sample-preparation equipment
Support accurate temperature measurements and sample preparation for experimental testing, thermal analysis and laboratory investigations.

Oxygen bomb calorimeter
Measures the energy content of biomass and solid fuels through controlled combustion.

High-temperature laboratory furnace
Provides controlled high-temperature heating for thermal treatment and material testing.

Flue-gas analyser
Measures combustion-gas concentrations to evaluate combustion efficiency and emissions.

Analytical balances
Support temperature measurements and the preparation of samples for experimental testing and analysis.
