SERG Sustainable Solid Fuels Lab
The sustainable solid fuels laboratory of the Sustainable Energy Research Group at Frederick University hosts all the required equipment for the implementation of proximal and elemental analysis of solid biomass and solid biofuels. All procedures followed for the sampling, storage, the elemental and the proximal analysis of solid biomass and solid biofuels samples are standardized and thoroughly described in the corresponding working instructions of the laboratory, included in the quality management system of SERG.
SERG Boilers Laboratory
Frederick University Boilers Laboratory is employed for the certification of Boilers auditors in Cyprus, under the Directive 2010 31 of the European Union on the energy performance of buildings. It is also used for teaching purposes at Frederick University in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and the Program of Mechanical Installations Technician.
Olive Mill Solid Waste Pelleting Center
Thιs video presents a pilot pellet plant designed and commissioned by the Sustainable Energy Research Group in terms of the KEDELEA project for olive husk pellets.
EcoHestia - Building Materials LCA Database
Ecohestia is a building materials Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) database developed by the Sustainable Energy Research Group at Frederick University. Ecohestia enables the implementation of whole- building cradle to site Life Cycle Assessment, considering all the inputs and outputs, including materials, energy and waste, associated with the construction of the building. EcoHestia is based on the ISO 14040 series.
Documentary Film -Olive Mill Solid Waste Pelleting Center
TV short documentary film, CYBC (Σπίτι στη φύση, 29/11/2015), research project "Olive husk collection and management centers for energy purposes" - KE.D.EL.E.A. The project was implemented under the Bilateral Cooperation Programme "Greece - Cyprus 2007-2013 ", co-funded by the European Union 80% and by National Funds of Greece and Cyprus 20%, with a total budget of 569.500 €.
Documentary Film -Olive Mill Waste Treatment
TV short documentary film, CYBC (Σπίτι στη φύση, 17/01/2016), on current practices for olive oil mill waste treatment.
Elemental Analysis of Solid Biofuels, demonstration at SERG Laboratory
The purpose of this demonstration is to provide instructions for the implementation of the elemental analysis of solid biofuels. The method described in this document is applicable to all solid biofuels. This demonstration is in compliance with the European standard EN 15104. This demonstration was conducted by the Sustainable Energy Research Group staff at Frederick University, Cyprus.
Calorific Value Measurement of Solid Biofuels using Bomb Calorimetry, demonstration at SERG Laboratory
The purpose of this demonstration is to provide instructions for the determination of the gross calorific value of solid biofuels at constant volume in a bomb calorimeter calibrated by combustion of certified benzoic acid. The gross calorific value at constant volume is the absolute value of the specific energy of combustion, in joules, for a unit mass of a solid biofuel burned in oxygen. This demonstration is in compliance with the European standard EN 14918.
Moisture Content Measurement of Solid Biofuels, demonstration at SERG Laboratory
The purpose of this demonstration is to provide instructions for the determination of the total moisture content of a sample of solid biofuels by drying in an oven. The method described in this document is applicable to all solid biofuels. This demonstration is in compliance with the European standard EN 14774.
